In regard to the RED, the camera is only half the image acquisition equation. Just like the film and developer relationship, the true image characteristics of the RedCode RAW files become apparent after a visit to the "Lab". The beauty of the RED is that the lab can be right there on set with you. It is simply a combination of computers and software. And just as you would have skilled technicians at the traditional film lab, so too should you have the same level of expertise in the digital lab.

With the RED Digital Cinema Camera , post-production starts as soon as the shot is finished. First and foremost the data that is shot should be treated with the same care and diligence as film or tape. Digicine treat your shots with that in mind. All footage data is logged, checked and multiple copies are made on set with an additional nightly backup service available.

Digicine can also offer 'one-light' RED based colour correction (using RedAlert/RedCine) and transcode services (QuickTime, ProRes HQ, DNxHD, DPX etc). If you can currently use QuickTime or image sequence files in your editing or finishing system, you can work with RED shot footage. At what stage transcoding of the source files is required is dependent on the path you choose to travel in post. With the rolling development of the RED, in addition to the current Final Cut Studio, Adobe CS4 and Scratch support, there will very soon be support for a host of other industry tools including Avid, AJA, and Blackmagic.

The RED system is currently the only camera that gives you the ability to completely finish a project using both a desktop based system and/or a higher end Digital Intermediate (DI) process all from the same master source files.
